Whatley Campus, Melbury College: Live School Roofing Refurbishment
Project Overview
The Challenge
The Solution
The existing design of the building required a bespoke low-pitched solution to be incorporated at eaves level to ensure the weathertightness of the roof, while allowing a plain tile finish to be reinstated in keeping with the original building design.
The existing flat roofs were overlaid, improving both their weathertightness and thermal performance. Works to these areas also included the replacement of rooflights, flashings and various ancillary items. To the pitched roof dormers, a cold-applied reinforced liquid waterproofing system was utilised to ensure strict adherence to NFRC Safe2Torch guidelines.
A dry ventilated roofing system was also introduced, incorporating discreet tile vents to improve airflow within the roof space.
To the façade of the building, the existing timber framework was overhauled, including the removal of degraded and rotten supporting timbers, followed by the installation of new fascias, soffits and guttering.
