PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project involved the recovering of roofs on the building known as the Stone Hut at Dover Castle, an English Heritage Property and major tourist attraction. Set high above the famous white cliffs, Dover Castle boasts a long, colourful and fascinating history.
It is a scheduled monument which includes structures dating back to Roman times and has been described as the “Key to England” due to its defensive significance throughout history. The building in question is used as a curatorial store and remained in operation throughout the entire contract period.
The re-roofing works were undertaken to three elevations of pitched natural slates and one area of asphalted roof. In conjunction with these areas some timber repairs to the structure including cladding, structural timbers and door and frame repairs took place.
External redecorations took place along with the consolidation of the wall tops along the built-in guttering line. All works were carried out under the cover of a temporary roof.
