Project Overview
A recently completed roofing refurbishment in Dorset, building upon our ongoing work with the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The project involved the complete removal and renewal of roof structures and coverings across 30 occupied residential buildings. Delivering this work required careful coordination, specialist design input, and precise execution to ensure resident safety, technical performance, and minimal disruption throughout.
The Challenge
The project began with the full removal of the existing roof system down to the joists, exposing the structure for inspection and modification. As is common with older buildings, the existing cavity tray heights did not meet current standards, necessitating a bespoke solution that would maintain compliance while preserving the integrity of the original construction.
Working in a live environment introduced further challenges including limited access, the presence of residents, and the need for continuous operational coordination meant every stage had to be carefully planned. The roof’s design also required technical adaptation to accommodate new falls and drainage systems, improving water run-off without compromising the building’s fabric.
The Solution
The team redesigned all supporting timber, modified various masonry abutments, installed a high-performance warm roof system, and replaced all rainwater goods.

Warm Roof Installation
A high-performance warm roof build-up was installed, significantly improving the building’s thermal efficiency and internal comfort.
EPDM Membrane Finish
The roof was finished with a robust EPDM membrane, providing excellent waterproofing, flexibility, and resistance to UV exposure and thermal movement.
Throughout the project, we maintained close communication with stakeholders and MOD personnel to ensure the safe coordination of logistics, deliveries, and live-site activities.

The completed roofing system meets all modern performance standards while remaining sympathetic to the building’s original form.
