Challenges and Objectives:

The primary challenge in this project was the need to revamp an aging roofing system while ensuring uninterrupted operations at Canons Leisure Centre. Our objectives were crystal clear: first, to install a resilient roofing system that guarantees long-term protection for the facility’s interior spaces, equipment, and activities; second, to prioritise safety by implementing stringent health and safety measures, including restricting public access and providing internal protections; and finally, to preserve revenues by minimising disruptions to the centre’s services and safeguarding the interior building and its contents.

Our Solution:

Roofing System: We opted for a BUR felt system due to its proven durability and reliability. This choice ensured long-term protection against the elements while maintaining the integrity of the building.
Mechanical and Electrical Adjustments: All mechanical and electrical systems and associated plant equipment were elevated to safeguard them from potential water damage and to create a secure, maintenance-friendly environment.
Water Tank Enclosure: A new water tank enclosure was constructed using shiplap UPVC cladding. This not only provided essential protection to the water tank but also contributed to the overall aesthetic enhancement of the leisure centre.
Safety Measures: Comprehensive health and safety measures were implemented to protect the public and staff. Public access to the worksite was restricted, and internal protections were put in place as needed to ensure the safety and security of all stakeholders.
Minimal Disruption: We executed the project with minimal disruption to the services offered by Canons Leisure Centre. This ensured that the centre could continue to serve the community without interruptions, ensuring the client experienced no revenue loss during the roofing renovation.
