Manufacturing Plant Roof Renewal in Horsham, West Sussex
Project Overview
We delivered a comprehensive manufacturing roof renewal in Horsham, replacing ageing asbestos roof sheets with a modern, insulated steel system. The works spanned three roof areas and incorporated significant drainage upgrades and sustainability measures, including the installation of a bespoke solar array.
The project was completed on an occupied manufacturing site, requiring precise planning, tight logistical control, and a phased delivery approach to ensure uninterrupted business operations.
The Challenge
The project required working within a live manufacturing environment, meaning the facility remained fully operational throughout. This demanded careful scheduling around production to avoid disruption. In addition, the restricted on-site space created logistical constraints, requiring phased deliveries and careful sequencing of materials. The existing drainage system also needed upgrading to handle increased capacity while accommodating the new roof height.
The Solution
We implemented a phased works programme, carrying out roofing activities in stages and working during weekends and out-of-hours to avoid interfering with daily operations.
The ageing asbestos sheets were safely removed and replaced with an insulated steel roofing system, improving thermal performance, weather resistance, and durability. To address drainage limitations, we lined the central box gutters with a pressure-bonded steel substrate and EPDM membrane, and installed new trimline guttering to external facades.
Finally, we designed and installed a bespoke solar array on one of the roof slopes, tailored to the client’s energy usage, providing a sustainable and cost-effective power source for years to come.
