Residential Roofing Refurbishment – Hounslow, West London
Project Overview
We completed a full roofing refurbishment on two residential properties in Hounslow, West London. The project included slate repairs, new rainwater goods, and a comprehensive flat roof overlay system to enhance performance, extend lifespan, and maintain the building’s visual appeal.
The Challenge
The property featured two flat roofs originally covered with a single-ply membrane, which had deteriorated over time. While the existing membrane remained suitable for use as a vapour control layer (VCL), the roof required a full overlay to restore waterproofing integrity.
The junction between the flat roofs and the slate mansard presented a potential vulnerability, requiring carefully executed detailing to prevent water ingress. In addition, repairs were needed to dormers and roof ventilation points, all while preserving the overall aesthetic of the building.
The Solution
A high-performance felt system was selected to overlay the existing membrane, offering a seamless and high-performance waterproofing solution. The retained system now acts as the functioning VCL beneath the new system.
New lead apron flashings were installed around the full perimeter to weather the critical junction between the flat roof drip edge and the adjoining mansard. To prevent wind uplift, all flashings were clipped with stainless steel.
The slate mansard was repaired where necessary, and all dormers were cleaned and treated with liquid waterproofing in targeted areas. Roof vents were refurbished and reinstalled to maintain ventilation performance. New gutters and downpipes were also installed to improve drainage and reduce future maintenance.
The Outcome
The property and residents now benefit from a robust and watertight roofing system, carefully integrated with the surrounding slate and detailing. By preserving viable components and focusing on precision installation, the project was delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
