Customs House: Roofing & Refurbishment

Contract Value: £250,000

A roofing and refurbishment project at a HMRC operations centre in Central London.

This £250,000 project required a full temporary roof and extensive scaffold to enable the complete external refurbishment of the exterior of this grade 2 listed building and various out buildings.

The work was carried out in accordance with established conservation principles and techniques sensitive to the historic nature of the building. This included the use of lime mortars to re-point the elevations and sensitive repair and re-decoration of joinery and metal work. The roofs were replaced with lead and Welsh slates.

The building was in full occupation and was used as an HMRC operations centre with a wharf from where launches of the UK Border Agency are sent to make interceptions of vessels. Therefore, consideration had to be given to security and the needs of the building users through out the project.
