Croydon Hospital NHS Trust Pathology Building: Flat Roofing
Contract Value: £350,000
A flat roofing project at Croydon Hospital.
This 2,000m2 roof replacement, on a busy 4 x storey NHS hospital building, included the removal of the existing screed, introducing tapered insulation and a high performance waterproofing system. The works were further complicated by the large amount of plant on the roof, some of which had to be removed and the rest temporarily disconnected and reinstated on Big Foot supports.
To avoid causing catastrophic disruption to NHS services in South London (Croydon has the largest blood analysis centre in the region) it was imperative that the operations of the building was not impacted by our works. This was made more challenging by having to work through on of the wettest autumns on record, but despite this our onsite team additionally managed to carry our independent roof repairs across the trust, ensuring other departments were also able to carry on operating as normal.
Health and safety was another major consideration given the constant flow of patients, staff and visitor 24 hours a day. Although saturated, the screed required considerably persuasion and eventually mechanical breakers had to be used to break it up.
Close liaison and planning with the Client was an important factor in the successful delivery of an excellent project, which finished on time and within budget and is covered by a 25 year guarantee.
