Barnes Methodist Church | Pitched Roofing

Maguire Brothers successfully delivered this natural slate and solar scheme on a historic church in Barnes, London.

The brief was to restore the roof and associated finishes at high level whilst also introducing a photovoltaic array (PV) to the south elevation without destroying the architectural integrity of the iconic Victorian building. We worked closely with the church architects and natural slates were used to replace the existing.

We also installed PV cells, designed to look like the new natural slates, to most of the south elevation. They blended in seamlessly and the new PV array has helped move the client towards a completely sustainable operation by making them self-sufficient for their electrical needs whilst maintaining the appearance of the building.

Extensive lead work was carried out throughout, as well as the refurbishment of the church’s rainwater goods. Some internal structural and refurbishment works were also carried out to make the church more attractive for clients to rent for hosting functions and provide the client with additional revenue streams.

The church and its very busy nursery school, remained in use throughout and we worked closely with all stakeholders to ensure their operations could continue safely.
