| The Greek Cathedral
Of St Sophia in Bayswater West London
Our
brief was to replace the roof coverings with the same materials
as those chosen when the building was originally constructed.
This is a normal requirement with a prestigious listed building.
However the factory in Greece which had manufactured the original
clay pan tiles had recently received an order to provide tiles
for the re-roofing of two large civic buildings in France and
was fully committed for nearly twelve months!
After spending some time in sourcing a suitable alternative
manufacturer was eventually found: - in France! The tiles,
battens and underlays all had to be fixed with screws to
prevent vibrations damaging the mosaics on the ceilings
beneath.
